For 2009, Mazda introduces two new models, the Mazda3 and the Mazda6. The 2010 Mazda3 features anti-lock brakes and side airbags. Four doors with remote-entry are standard. The 2010 Mazda3 will be slightly larger and will get a larger 2.5-liter engine to replace the smaller 2.3-liter engine which is available in the current Mazda3. The Mazda6 sedan, new for 2009, will be unique to the North American market unlike the 2008 model, which was shared with Europe. The new Mazda6 is arguably the best looking sedan in its class, and has the features to back it up. The 2009 Mazda6 is offered with a 2.5-liter 4-cylinder or 3.7-liter V6. Electronic stability control is offered on the new Mazda6, as well. The 2009 CX-7 and CX-9 remain unchanged for 2009, with the exception of a few electronic convenience features along with a trailer-towing package for the larger CX-9.

Mazda tends to offer more incentives compared to other Japanese automakers. However, it has been attempting to wean itself off discounts to raise its brand image. Currently, on average, Mazda spends a little less than $2,000 on incentives per vehicle.
