About the Service

How does your service work?

Simply create an online ad for $29 on CarsDirect.com and it will appear in our premium used car listings. Your ad will "Run 'til it Sells". However, the ad must be renewed every 30 days or it will expire. You may edit and renew your ad at any time prior to its expiration date for no additional fee by logging into your My CarsDirect account.

Who will see my ad?

Millions of car shoppers visit CarsDirect.com every month. Your ad will be available to those shoppers in your area who search for your make and model.

How long will my ad run?

Your listing will remain on the CarsDirect.com site for 30 days, unless you delete it. You must renew your ad on or before day 30 or it will be removed from the listings and deleted from our system. You may renew your ad at any time prior to its expiration date for no additional fee by logging into your My CarsDirect account.

How soon will my used car ad be displayed on CarsDirect?

Your listing will be posted immediately and will show in our search filters within 3 hours.

Can I run multiple used car ads at the same time?

Yes. Each ad is charged separately.

How will prospective buyers contact me?

Prospective buyers can contact you by phone or by e-mail. Your name and e-mail are required.

What if no one buys my vehicle?

If no prospective buyers are biting, you can edit your ad at any time, adjusting the price, adding/changing photos, etc. You can renew your ad on My CarsDirect indefinitely for no extra charge, provided you renew your ad before its scheduled expiration date.

What is your refund policy?

CarsDirect.com does not generally provide refunds of used car listing fees. We will provide a full refund only under limited circumstances. Please read our complete refund policy.



Creating an Ad

Why can't I find my vehicle model in the pull-down menus on the start page?

We accept private party listings for all vehicle models that can be searched on our site.

If you cannot find your vehicle model in the pull-down menus, we currently do not support that model.

How do I determine an asking price for my used vehicle?

You should consult CarsDirect.com's Real Prices™ report to see a realistic range of market prices for the year, make, model and trim level of your vehicle. You should also take into account any mechanical or cosmetic damage to your vehicle and adjust the price accordingly.

What type of vehicle images do you accept?

You can upload the following types of digital photos: JPEG (.jpg, .jpeg, jpe), GIF (.gif), TIFF (.tif, .tiff), and Windows Bitmap (.bmp). Images must be no larger than 640 pixels wide by 480 pixels high. Maximum file size is 10 MB.

How many photos can I show?

You can upload up to 10 photos.

What if I don’t have a photo of my vehicle?

We recommend that you include a photo of your used vehicle in your ad; however it is not required. If you don't have a photo available at the time you submit your listing, you can come back and add one later by logging in to your My CarsDirect account. We also offer free stock photos for many vehicles.

What's a VIN and is it required?

Every vehicle produced since 1981 has a unique vehicle identification number, or VIN. This 17-character serial number can be found on the driver's side of the dashboard where it meets the windshield.

Although this field is optional when creating an ad, we recommend including it whenever possible. Some prospective buyers like to have a VIN so that they can research a vehicle's history and make sure it doesn't have a salvage title.

How do I pay for my ad?

All ads are created and submitted online and paid for with a credit card. We accept Mastercard, Visa and American Express.

Maintaining an Ad

Can I delete, edit or renew my ad?

Yes. You can delete, edit, or renew your ad, by logging in to your My CarsDirect account with your user name and password included in the activation e-mail. You must renew your ad on or before day 30 or it will be removed from the listings and deleted from our system.

What changes can I make to my ad?

You can edit anything in your ad except the VIN, make, model and year of your used vehicle. Please contact CarsDirect customer support at 1.888.CarsDirect for any other questions regarding your ad.
