Subaru Outback Generations
For each major redesign, a vehicle is said to begin a new "generation."
The Outback is available with a 170-hp naturally-aspirated 2.5-liter 4-cylinder with a 6-speed manual (or optional 6-speed CVT), or a new for this year, 3.6-liter 6-cylinder with a 5-speed automatic. The CVT and automatic transmissions feature a manual mode with paddle levers on the steering wheel. Limited models feature leather seating, a 6-disc 440-watt 9-speaker harman/kardon audio system, dual-zone automatic climate control and Bluetooth hands-free phone capability.
The following model years make up the most recent Subaru Outback generations:
2005 - 2010 Subaru Outback
Major changes included: The Outback has been upped in performance (horsepower ranges from 168-250) and added its Symmetrical All-Wheel Drive, which is designed to optimize traction. Also, new safety technology has been added including standard front side impact air bags and side curtain air bags. The engine in the new Outback is now lower, which decreases the center of gravity allowing for a more comfortable ride and smooth, easy handling. | |
2000 - 2004 Subaru Outback
Major changes included: Based on the third-generation Legacy, the Outback is equipped for off-road driving with features such as 15” tires, fog lamps and speed-sensitive steering. The model gives the option of a 2.5L automatic engine or 2.2.L manual with hill holder clutch (eventually replaced with 2.5L across the board).
