Introduced in 1982 as one of the first compact pickup trucks from a domestic manufacturer, the 1998 Chevy S-Series is only the second generation of this popular vehicle. The 1994 redesign resulted in a new name (it used to be called the S-10), and increases in most significant dimensions. A third door on extended-cab modelsproviding direct access to the cab's rear seating/cargo areabecame available in 1996. For 1998, enhancements include revised front and rear styling, a more-powerful 4-cylinder base engine, standard 4-wheel disc brakes (on 4WD models), and a passenger airbag with a passenger-side deactivation switch. The S-Series offers an extensive selection of engine, drivetrain, comfort and convenience options.
